About Us.
Trinidad North is led by David Gettes, steeldrum player, maker, tuner, and teacher.
David Gettes was one of the first individuals to "scientifically study" the building and tuning of steel drums, beginning in the 1980s under the direction of the legendary , Ellie Mannette" of Woodbrook Trinidad AKA "The father of the modern steel drum". David became Ellie's apprentice and studied with him for 7 years learning many guarded secrets and techniques on how to build, tune as well as perform on all the different steel drums (Pans) that comprise a Steel Orchestra.
What we offer.
Trinidad North can be found playing at all types of events! Trinidad North most often plays at weddings, festivals, birthday parties, graduation parties, cocktail hours, fund raisers, schools, retirement homes. We've even opened for Jimmy Buffet and Earth Wind & Fire!
We also offer steeldrum lessons for individuals or groups of all ages,, steeldrums for purchase, and steeldrum tuning.
Where we play.
Trinidad North is based in the Philadelphia area. We usually perform all over Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York!
We've also performed internationally, in Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos, the US Virgin Islands, New Zealand, Israel, Canada, & Costa Rica and are happy to discuss travelling to you for your event!
